This server uses Apache 1.3.33, under Mac OS X, 10.3.9 on a Macintosh 7600 PowerPC that has a Sonnett Crescendo G4/450 (1 megabyte backside cache) processor upgrade, with 1 gigabytes of RAM, a Sonnet Tempo ATA-133 PCI EIDE adapter card and two 160-gigabyte hard drives from Western Digital. It is connected to the Internet via an ADSL line provided by AT&T, 512kbps up, using routers and switches from Netopia and NetGear.

This site’s search engine is based on iSearch, a PHP-based application written by Ian Willis. It is running version 2.16. This application is available both in a free and pro version; we're using the pro version on the NewsInc.net web site, while the ColeGroup.com and ColePapers.net sites use the free version.

Between April 15, 1995 and April 2000, this web site was served on a Macintosh IIci running first, MacHTTP and later, WebStar. The machine had 20mb of RAM and a 28.8-kps full-time Internet connection.

From May 1, 2000 to Dec. 31, 2005, the site was platformed on the same machine as it is today, though it had much less memory, used a slower ATA card and had a only an 80-gigabyte drive. During that entire period the machine served about a dozen domains with WebSTAR 4.2, on Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9, connected to the Internet through Open Transport 2.5 on a T1 line co-located at Planeteria in San Francisco.

Mail services are hosted on a second Macintosh 7600 PowerPC, similarly configured as the first. We are running Eudora Mail Server (EIMS) X 3.3b12 for SMPT and POP, and it is front-ended by CounterAgent 2 from Jett Fuel Productions LLC. DNS services are hosted on the same machine, running BIND 9.2.4. Secondary DNS service is provided by DNS Made Easy.
