News in the not-too-distant future

NEW ORLEANS -- What our Cole readers know and the rest of the world hasn't figured out yet, is that geeks and nerds are having most of the fun these days. (Since I am myself a hybrid of the two categories, you can trust that this is said with all due respect, admiration, and affection.)

Not that fun necessarily comes easily, as the five researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab who shared slices of their visions of the future with NEXPO audiences on Monday, June 23, are likely to agree.

We've written about the Media Lab and the News in the Future consortium (NIF) in the Cole Papers before. The current projects make it worth another few hundred words:

  • Take a note

  • Golden years

  • A three percent solution

  • Zen ink

  • Bizarre bazaar
