NEXPO '97 conference report
NEW ORLEANS -- As we consistently point out, NEXPO is not just a trade show, it's a conference as well.
Here are profiles of some of the more interesting conference sessions:
- One of the "pre-conference sessions" was a kind of "Web Publishing 101" for newspaper executives.
- Newspaper new media executives lambasted the industry for panicking about profits in a session called @NEXPO.net.
- No one gathers data like newspapers. And so the industry should treat that data carefully, including warehouse it, or so said a panel on that topic (that also drug in some Year 2000 issues).
- Professors and research assistants from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab discussed a group of projects they're performing that might have applications in the newspaper business.
- The quality of color reproduction was the topic of Monday's second session. Advertisers are not happy with the newspaper industry's ability to reproduce ads faithfully.
- A group of industry experts talked about digital ad delivery (and sales force automation) in a Tuesday panel.
