Cole's Courses

Behind each Cole's Course is this belief: Employees can do better when they understand how their technical training fits into the workplace as a whole.

Cole's Courses help employees recognize and create growth opportunities. Their renewed creativity will translate into better products and higher revenues. You'll reduce the high cost of burnout and turnover, and your people will work smarter, happier and more efficiently.

Despite the small group size that encourages participation and discussion, Cole's Courses remain less expensive than residential programs, but still offer the face-to-face experience most employees find beneficial.

Building a cooperative work environment

These sessions acknowledge that the walls between departments -- real or imagined -- need to come down:

  • Newspapers for nonjournalists. Designed for people who work at the newspaper but have had no formal journalism training, this session is especially good for technical people who must work with the newsroom.

  • Production issues for the newsroom. While new journalists often have never heard of a pica pole, and don't know what happens once they file their stories, they can't escape the new technologies that drop production tasks on their laps.

  • The business of newspapers. Offered in two versions, for production people or journalists, these sessions help employees outside the business offices understand how those departments spell success for the newspaper.

  • New media directions. This session can be customized for reporter/editors, photographers or advertising, or can be presented as a session on merging cultures (broadcast, on-line and newspapers) in a new media environment.

Management, leadership

While we are prepared to tailor courses to meet the needs of your publication and staff, we offer these sessions now:

  • Time management. Customized sessions for journalists, managers and others are designed to help staff gain new techniques for not only increasing efficiency, but setting and achieving goals and balancing competing demands.

  • Leadership for nonmanagers. More than ever, businesses need leaders. As publications move toward a team environment, workers need more understanding to take on new responsibilities.

  • Sales force automation for advertising. Sessions cover what it is and what it can do, the benefits it offers the newspaper and customers, and how to use it to increase sales.
