  • DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORP.
Digital Equipment Corp. of Merrimack, N.H., has become an authorized North American integrator of Quark Publishing System, made by Quark Inc. of Denver.

Digital joins 20 other Quark-authorized QPS integrators in North and South America. An additional 38 integrators market and support QPS in Europe, South Africa, and Australia.

DEC's multimedia services consulting group will provide sales, support and installation to newspapers and magazines, many of which already use Digital equipment.

QPS, a Macintosh-oriented workgroup publishing solution now installed in more than 300 sites world-wide, can run under Windows NT on a Digital AlphaServer 400. Quark's benchmark tests indicate the AlphaServer performs faster than file servers on other Windows-based systems.

  • AGFA
Agfa, a manufacturer of photographic and digital imaging products based in Ridgefield, N.J., has entered into an alliance with AT&T to make its digital printing and software products compatible with AT&T's newly formed Network Demand Printing (NDP) Service.

AT&T and Agfa will work together to ensure compatibility of the NDP service with Agfa's Chromapress digital printing system, which is designed to produce high quality four-color materials for fast-turnaround, low-volume print runs.

Chromapress permits printing a document directly from an electronic file via modem, on-line network or disk to a digital printer. Thus, end users can distribute and print their documents -- rather than print and then distribute -- such things as manuals, brochures and newsletters at the point of use.

AT&T has agreements with several other digital printing vendors, and plans to include software from Adobe Systems Inc. and Quark Inc. on its network-based service.
