The Broadcast Group of CBS has installed ad transmission software from Los Angeles-based DigiFlex for distributing print ads to newspapers via high-speed telephone lines. By implementing the system, CBS saves the cost and time associated with engraving, duping and distributing velox copies of ad prints. DigiFlex also installed its software at TV Week Network, a media service that distributes ads to 91 U.S. newspapers for publication in their television listing magazines. This photo technology company based in Quincy, Mass., has announced these recent purchases of its Merlin image archiving system: --BOSTON GLOBE, dual-Pentium server, 10-gigabyte RAID system. --NORFOLK (Va.) VIRGINIAN-PILOT, dual-Pentium server, 100 CD jukebox, mastering station. --WASHINGTON POST, dual-Pentium system, upgraded RAIDs. --RICHMOND (Va.) TIMES-DISPATCH, dual-Pentium system, upgraded RAIDs. --NEW STRAITS TIMES of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, dual-Pentium system, upgraded RAIDs. --EDMONTON (Alberta) JOURNAL has ordered a dual-Pentium system with upgraded RAID, 100-CD jukebox and mastering station. --Southam Newspapers of Canada has selected Merlin as the group archiving system for its 16 daily newspapers. Two of the papers, the VANCOUVER (British Columbia) SUN and THE PROVINCE, purchased a dual-Pentium server, 100 CD jukebox, mastering station, for internal use. Accessible through the Web are a full text archive of Newspapers & Technology for 1994 and 1995; an example of Baseview's classified solution for the Internet; a listing of college newspapers on-line, an index of Baseview Viewpoint Articles and information on the 1995 Macintosh Pagination Forum. Access to court documents in the O.J. Simpson murder trial now are available on-line through LEXIS-NEXIS of Dayton, Ohio. Unofficial court transcripts of morning and afternoon sessions of the trial in Los Angeles are made available on-line within 60 minutes of the close of each session. Included are transcripts of sidebar conversations at the bench. Official court transcripts and sidebars are posted on LEXIS-NEXIS 24 to 48 hours after the close of the court's day. This information is available in the OJHOT file in the service's NEWS, TOPNWS and LEGNEW libraries. A custom on-line product for users seeking only Simpson trial information also can be provided, which includes California public records data such as professional licenses and corporation records. New Canaan, Conn.-based NewsBank has added the U.S. Newswire to CD NewsBank, a CD-ROM news database issued monthly that contains articles from more than 100 U.S. newspapers and domestic and international news services. U.S. Newswire provides full-text information issued by Congressional offices, the White House, government agencies and interest groups. Voice News Network, the audiotex syndication arm of Chicago-based TMS, has signed an agreement to use more voice feeds from ABC News. The deal expands VNN's use of ABC's sound bites from major events, providing access to more sports reports as well as reports from ABC correspondents. VNN also recently expanded its business news coverage through an agreement with Reuter News Service. --30--
