  • BITSTREAM INC.
    This provider of font technology, digital fonts and custom font designs has announced that it is releasing its fifth set of fonts from the New Font Collection program. The new release features display and text fonts from designers Nick Curtis, Charles Gibbons, Nicolai Gogoll and Mary Trafton.

    All the fonts will be available in PostScript Type 1 and TrueType formats for both Windows and the Macintosh.

    Typefaces featured in the latest release include Drescher Grotesk Light, Book, Roman and Demi by Nicolai Gogoll; FM Black Cherry Moon, Alternate, Ligature and Doubles by Charles Gibbons & Mary Trafton, and Steppin' Out by Nick Curtis

  • COLD NORTH WIND INC.
    The National Archives of Canada has teamed up with this Ottawa-based provider of on-line archive technology to increase the access of William Lyon Mackenzie King's diaries to Canadians and people from around the world on the Internet.

    The diaries, which King kept on a regular basis from 1893 while as a student at the University of Toronto until shortly before his death in 1950, provide an intimate glimpse into one of Canada's most unusual and dominant political figures.

    The diaries will be available on the National Archives web site as part of a retrospective on King's life. The diaries will be searchable by term or phrase as well as by date and page number. The diaries exist in three forms -- the original handwritten diary, a typed transcript and an abridged typed transcript. In total there are about 50,000 images.

    This Vienna, Va., provider of search, retrieval and categorization software has announced that its RetrievalWare technology has been selected for Oxford University Press' recently launched on-line reference site. Convera's RetrievalWare has been embedded in Oxford Reference Online: The Core Collection, a research resource that brings together 100 of Oxford's renowned dictionary and reference titles into a single cross-searchable database.

    Working with Convera and on-line developer Semantico, Oxford University Press' new site features search capabilities that allow visitors to retrieve the most relevant information from among the more than 1.5 million facts, figures, people, places, sayings, dates and dictionary definitions contained in Oxford's subject reference books, English and bilingual dictionaries, English language reference titles and dictionaries of quotations.

    New York Times Digital has announced that NYTimes.com has gone live with eRights, eMeta's information access control and commerce system to expand product offerings and simplify subscriber access to its archives.

    NYTimes.com is using eRights to improve the customer experience and expand the on-line sales capabilities of the NYTimes.com web site. An enterprise software system, eRights enables the management of customers, products, subscriptions and billing in the sale of digital content.

    ERights is also helping in the sale of newly released premium products like Times Talks, NYTimes.com's first paid streaming video product. Other premium products powered by eRights include Topics in Depth, collections of archived articles by TIMES columnists including Thomas Friedman and William Safire, as well as bundles of popular crossword puzzles, and Editors' Picks, bundles of articles and multimedia created around a particular topic such as "Best Pictures: Oscar Winners in The TIMES, 1929-2002."

    This provider of fonts and custom typefaces has announced the release of 11 new fonts, including ITC Keefbats, two weights of ITC Photoplay and the eight-weight ITC Tabula family.

    Created by Australian graphic designer Keith Philip, ITC Keefbats is a collection of strange and likeable characters including animals, insects and a pointy-headed human.

    Nick Curtis' ITC Photoplay was unearthed from the 1927 edition of Samuel Welo's "Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers." The design's original suggested use was for title and caption cards for silent movies.

    BURLINGTON COUNTY TIMES will install an 18-seat AdBase system for classified ad input and classified pagination at, while the BUCKS COUNTY TIMES will install a 26-seat AdBase system for classified ad input and classified pagination.

    FluentMedia, a content-licensing division of Tribune Media Services (TMS) and the Associated Press have agreed to add AP news and photos to FluentMedia's content service, which includes news from international information providers.

    AP Digital, the AP division that distributes news and information to Internet and wireless customers and services, will deliver top domestic and world news stories, international news in five languages, and a daily feed of breaking news photos from more than 240 AP bureaus worldwide.

    FluentMedia will receive about 700 articles a day from AP Online. The content will be available at all times to sites that subscribe to FluentMedia's services. AP articles will include key stories on national and international business, financial markets, entertainment, technology, health and wellness and politics and government.

    FluentMedia will also offer customers comprehensive international news in Spanish, French, Dutch, Portuguese and German from the AP WorldStream service. In addition, FluentMedia customers will have the option to subscribe to photos from AP PhotoStream, a daily feed of hundreds of breaking news photos from around the world.
