  • ANYGRAAF USA INC.
    The Reading Eagle Co., publisher of Pennsylvania's READING EAGLE, has purchased Anygraaf's PageComposer to handle imposition needs for its tabloid products.

    PageComposer serves as a page-pairing engine and works in a stand-alone configuration or as an integrated component of the Anygraaf suite of publishing products.

  • ATEX MEDIA SOLUTIONS INC.
    The Riverina Media Group (RMG) of Wagga Wagga, Australia, has confirmed its plans to overhaul its pre-press departments this year and will acquire new advertising and editorial applications -- as well as major software upgrades -- from Atex.

    The first stage of the five-step project is already underway. RMG is replacing IBM RS/6000s servers with Dell Power Edge 2400s running Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced server configured with Microsoft Clustering. Installation of 92 Dell Optiplex GX240 workstations and upgrades to the current 10 megabit hubs and switches will see communications rocket to 1 gigabit. The rest of the network is being upgraded to 100 megabit.

    With the technical infrastructure complete, a phased implementation of Atex products will include upgrades to the Enterprise advertising system and the Prestige editorial system. New Atex products for RMG will include: Enterprise Integrated Accounts Receivable (IAR), Atex Architect for publication design and ad placement, Atex Classified Pagination, Prestige Web Client for Internet publishing and Atex Lighthouse for automatic placement of EPS advertising content on a page.

    In addition, Atex announced that the Border Mail Pty. Ltd, publisher of the BORDER MAIL and TWIN-CITIES POST newspapers of Wodonga, Australia, has contracted for a 36-seat Prestige editorial system. The system will replace an Atex J-11 editorial system that uses Quark-based Atex Press2Go for layout. The contract also includes installation of Atex's latest edition planning software, NT Architect.

CityXpress will provide daily updates on-line under the brand Purple Mountain Xpress.

    This supplier of graphic arts technology has announced the iQsmart line of professional color scanners that produce scans from any size original, featuring optical resolution of up to 5500-dots-per-inch from edge to edge. iQsmart scans any type of original, including transparent (positive and negative), reflective, mounted slides, line art, printed material and halftone-screened films.

    The iQsmart scans up to 96 35mm slides at one time and generates up to 40 scans per hour. iQsmart scanners employ the oXYgen scanning application, which uses image editing and soft proofing tools with International Color Consortium (ICC)-compliant color management.

    DTI's SpeedLibrarian will replace DELMENHORSTER KREISBLATT's Digital Collection's DC3 archive system. Information to be archived will automatically move from the production database into the archive database with no re-formatting necessary.     MassTransit Enterprise version 4.1 delivers three key security-enhancing capabilities: protection of digital data in transit through the use of OpenSSL-based encryption; validation of identity of both web clients and servers with support for X.509 digital certificates, and improved network security by eliminating the requirement that organizations open a dedicated firewall port for MassTransit traffic. MassTransit Enterprise v.4.1 will also add support for web browser clients operating in the Macintosh OS X operating system.

    This provider of digital signage systems has announced the launch of a pilot program with Dow Jones & Co. Inc. of South Brunswick, N.J., that provides multiple fixed image signs in newsstands selling the WALL STREET JOURNAL and BARRON'S.

    Gyricon Media, through its strategic partner Array Marketing Group, provides Dow Jones with SmartPaper signs, which highlight particular content in the paper each day.

    The JOURNAL and BARRON'S have used paper signs to promote special content in the past. Gyricon SmartPaper signs will automatically "flip" the sign at 1 a.m. each day to reveal the next day's content. If the pilot is a success, Dow Jones will consider a broader application of the SmartPaper technology.

    Prior to the integration of the Rimfire technology, NEWS-SENTINEL advertisers were unable to add photos to their on-line classified ads. Now through the Photos Online service, classified advertisers can add up to five photos with their on-line ads for a nominal fee of just $5 per photo.

    Alabama's MOBILE REGISTER (95k) has contracted with MCC to provide software to improve the selection of ads for export from an SII system to a Baseview system.

    The system will be implemented by using MCC's TextStream product, already in use at the REGISTER. The software will allow a more flexible method of selection for the classes to be exported, and will afford a more precise selection method for ads to be exported. It will also bring the class mapping to the SII system.

    This German graphic arts software supplier has introduced Sicuriq and Sicuriq Pro, two applications that automatically convert between different raster- and object-based image formats.

    Both Sicuriq and Sicuriq Pro can convert bitmap native data files to bitmap target data files or alternatively to PDF, EPS or PS target data files, and vice versa. Four-color separated data files may also be converted back to a full-color data file, similarly in the opposite direction, a raster data file may be transformed into a separated data file.

    Sicuriq Pro includes all the functionality of Sicuriq and in addition, is capable of converting: the customary TIFF/IT-P1-variants (LW, CT, HC, FP) as well as the different Scitex-handshake formats (LW, CT, PG, NLW, NCT). It can also adapt data files in TIFF-IT- and Scitex formats to the production of a PDF or PostScript workflow.
