Agfa cited the downturn in demand for analog printing plates in Europe -- coupled with a steady demand for the same products in China -- as the reason for opening the Chinese plant. It said it would concentrate analog printing plate making at its Wiesbaden, Germany, plant and that the Leeds plant would manufacture all substrate for its digital plate products.

Agfa said it would implement the Leeds layoffs over the next 13 months.

ScreamingMedia has provided FluentMedia, a content-licensing unit of Tribune Media Services, with its Syndication!Connect technology platform which includes its Content Engine and SiteWare. ScreamingMedia will use this distribution channel to make its technology and services available to all of FluentMedia's subscribers.
