  • ARTESIA TECHNOLOGIES INC.
    This Rockville, Md.-based provider of digital asset management systems has announced that Accumedia, a provider of web-publishing and e-business systems, has adopted Artesia's TEAMS application as a part of Accumedia's Convergence Platform.

    Accumedia, of Boulder, Colo., provides media companies with systems for publishing on the Web.

  • ATEX MEDIA SOLUTIONS INC.
    McMillan Scott plc., a contract publisher in the United Kingdom, has purchased the Atex Enterprise advertising system from Atex Media Solutions of Bedford, Mass.

    McMillan Scott produces 500 individual publications each year on behalf of local authorities, trade associations, affinity groups and public-sector clients in both print and on the Internet; 150 advertising sales reps regularly deal with more than 60,000 advertisers.

    The company also said that it has signed an agreement with Gannett Media Technologies International of Cincinnati to market the Digital Collections DC4 data management system in North and South America.

    The agreement calls for Atex to offer the DC4 digital archiving and asset management system with its content management offerings. GMTI will continue to distribute DC4 as a stand-alone system.

    The web site of the PROVIDENCE JOURNAL (160k), Projo.com, has become an affiliate of this Reston, Va.-based recruitment aggregator.

    CareerBuilder has also announced that Gojobzone.com, the on-line jobs site for THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE (172k) of Riverside, Calif., has also affiliated with the company.

    Both sites are run by Belo Interactive of Dallas.

    THE NOW, a twice-weekly 110,000-circulation newspaper of Surrey, British Columbia, has affiliated with CityXpress.com, a provider of on-line and print special sections devoted to home and garden, dining and entertainment.

    THE NOW is part of the VanNet group of newspapers, a division of Lower Mainland Publishing Group Inc., which is owned by CanWest Global Communications Corp.

    CityXpress also said that it has entered into an agreement with Chicago's Tribune Media Services to jointly offer Tribune's On the Mark Media specialty publications.

    Under the agreement, On the Mark Media is now able to offer its customers on-line Xpress Special Sections that include fresh articles integrated with revenue-generating promotional opportunities, and CityXpress is now able to update its Xpress Special Sections daily with articles from Easy Special Sections, as well as offer the print product to its newspaper customers.

    Font Reserve Server, the company's client-server font-management system, has been upgraded to version 1.0.1.

    This Arlington, Va.-based supplier of network workflow software has announced that it has released the latest version of MassTransit Enterprise, its digital file transfer application.

  • KNIGHT RIDDER DIGITAL
    This San Jose-based subsidiary of the newspaper and multimedia company has said that Belo Interactive has affiliated its 15 newspaper and television web sites with Knight Ridder's Real Cities web network.

    The Real Cities network now covers 15 of the top 25 markets in the country and 25 of the top 50 markets in the country. With the addition of Belo, Real Cities is now in 55 cities. The companies said that they were "looking to collaborate" on other fronts as well.

  • MONOTYPE SYSTEMS INC.
    New Mexico's HOBBS NEWS-SUN (10k) and Colorado Mountain News Media of Gypsum, Colo., have purchased FasTRAK metal platesetting systems from Monotype Systems Inc. (MSI) of Rolling Meadows, Ill.

    In addition, this supplier of pre-press systems has announced the new ExpressTRAK Computer-To-Plate (CTP) Flat Bed Systems for major metropolitan newspapers.

    The MSI ExpressTRAK 180 and ExpressTRAK 240 CTP platesetters output broadsheet plates at the rate of 180 or 240 plates per hour at 1016 dots per inch. The devices have been designed to easily switch between imaging single broadsheets, two-up broadsheets and doubletrucks.

    The machines utilize a patented five-facet holographic imaging technology and interface to existing K&F Vision systems or Western Litho OPB systems, as well as all the MSI PrintExpress and MSI OnTRAK page tracking systems.

  • NORTHERN LIGHTS DATASYSTEMS INC.
    The CHICAGO TRIBUNE (540k) has installed this company's JobMinder photo assignment request software, replacing an internally developed system.

    JobMinder 6.0, released earlier this summer, runs in native mode (Cocoa) on Mac OS X. It is a client-server based management system for creating and cataloging photo assignment requests. Built on FileMaker Pro, JobMinder provides a simple user interface for maintaining a database of photo assignment information.

    The product also has an optional graphics module that allows graphics editors to create, assign and track graphics requests.

    The company said earlier installations have included THE ADVOCATE (94k) in Baton Rouge, La., and the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS (353k) in Denver.
