BRAINWORKS SOFTWARE
This Sayville, N.Y.-based provider of advertising management, billing, and accounts receivable software for newspapers has announced that it has purchased Freedom System Integrators Inc. from Monotype Systems Inc. of Rolling Meadows, Ill. Monotype is part of International Publishing Associates Ltd., of the United Kingdom, better known as the IPA Group, which also owns and IPA Systems of the United Kingdom.

Freedom System Integrators, based in Wichita, Kansas, is a provider of pre-press advertising and editorial systems, including classified advertising, classified pagination, ROP pagination, class-to-web and editorial systems. FSI was founded in 1978 as Mycro-Tek Systems.

Brainworks said this step represents the culmination of a long-standing relationship between Brainworks and FSI. The close cooperation of the FSI and Brainworks technical teams resulted in the total integration of their products prior to the completion of the acquisition.

Terms were not revealed; the deal is effective May 31, 2001.
