  • ARTESIA TECHNOLOGIES
    This Rockville, Md.-based provider of digital asset management systems has announced that J.W. Cappelens Forlag AS, a Norwegian subsidiary of the Swedish media conglomerate The Bonnier Group, has implemented TEAMS across its Book Club Magazine Publishing Process.

    The TEAMS digital asset management tool is integrated into the Book Club magazine creation process in order to streamline production, allowing cost savings and increased productivity. The initiative allows graphic designers to drag-and-drop TEAMS assets into the Quark XPress magazine design tool. The TEAMS interface with XPress allows image and text assets to be natively dragged-and-dropped into the layout tool along with the assets' descriptive metadata, such as pricing and ordering information.

  • EIDOSMEDIA SRI
    This Italian company has announced its Methode knowledge management system which is designed to create, correlate, retrieve and transform knowledge. Based on XML (eXtensible Markup Language), an object-oriented database, a "knowledge search engine" and built on multitier architecture, Methode offers publishers ways to capture knowledge from both external and internal sources, correlate information, enhance how people work, create virtual teams and help spread knowledge across the organization in ways that directly affect performance.

  • MACTIVE INC.
    Based in Melbourne, Fla., this provider of advertising systems announced that Mediaspace Solutions of Norwalk, Conn., a full-service newspaper planning and placement organization, signed a contract for an AdBase system.

    Mediaspace Solutions will use Mactive's AdBase for classified and retail ad-order entry, and will also be using PageLayout for classified pagination, and Money Manager for accounts receivable. It will utilize Windows NT servers with a Microsoft SQL database and four Windows 2000 clients.

    In addition, the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL (461k) has recently signed a contract for an AdBase system. The JOURNAL SENTINEL purchased a 99-seat AdBase system for order entry of classified liners and display ads and classified pagination. The paper is also considering using AdBase for retail ad-order entry in the future. It will utilize Windows NT clients with Sun servers and an Oracle database.

    North Jersey Media Group Inc. of Hackensack, N.J., signed a contract for an AdBase system recently as well. The 170-seat system will handle the order entry requirements for both classified and retail advertising at North Jersey Media Group. In addition, the company will use Mactive's accounts receivable application, Money Manager. Servers and clients will run under Windows NT using an Oracle database.

    Mactive has also signed agreements with Florida's ST. PETERSBURG TIMES (353k), THE HERALD-SUN of Durham, N.C., THE RECORD (43k) of Stockton, Calif., and PENSACOLA (Fla.) NEWS JOURNAL (59k).

    Formerly Colorcentric.com, this Minneapolis, Minn.-based company unveiled a new system family based on its bandwidth-independent Catalyst Technology.

    PROLATUS tools allow content creators to drag-and-drop any size image file and send it quickly, at no cost, over a standard Internet connection to any PROLATUS-enabled printer/pre-press location in the world.

    The receiver can perform image-editing production processes using their existing, mainstream image-editing applications. When they return the file to the sender their changes are automatically applied to the original image.

  • TERA S.P.A.
    This Italian company has signed a joint venture agreement with Formis Holdings Berhad (Formis), an investment holding company based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under the agreement, TERA holds 60 percent of the shareholdings of the newly formed joint-venture company, Tera Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd (Tera AP), while Formis hold the remaining 40 percent.

    The new company, based in Kuala Lumpur, will be responsible for developing the business for pre-press and editorial markets for the entire Asia Pacific region.

  • SALIENT STILLS
    Based in Boston, Mass., this company has announced that publishing organizations around the United States have adopted VideoFOCUS, including Long Island's NEWSDAY, the New York branch of advertising agency Foote Cone Belding Worldwide and SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazine.

    Salient Stills also announced signing distributors for the European marketplace, which include Maquimpres in Spain, Monopresse in France, APS Solutions in Italy, and Deltagraph in Denmark.

    VideoFOCUS is a plug-and-play packaged software system that connects directly to ordinary video sources, such as a cable, satellite or videotape. The system automatically digitizes and stores video from the source, and sequentially displays thumbnail images on screen for review. The technology provides the ability to create sharp 200 to 300 dpi (dots per inch) images from 72 dpi video grabs.

  • SEECOLOR CORP.
    Monotype Systems of Rolling Meadows, Ill., a member of IPA Holdings, has reached an agreement with SeeColor.

    Under the terms of the agreement, Monotype will sell SeeColor's computer-to-proof press accurate color halftone proofing system. Montotype will be marketing ReelColour in conjunction with RipExpress, the company's stand-alone RIP product as well as with PrintExpress, its digital workflow system.

    SeeColor's software accepts files after raster image processing, reproduces the underlying halftone dots and produces low-cost, press-accurate color halftone page proofs, which can be printed onto butt-ends of newsprint stock.

  • SOFTWARE CONSULTING SERVICES
    This Nazareth, Pa.-based developer of enterprise publishing systems has announced that SCS/Track interfaces seamlessly with Multi-Ad's Creator 6 ad-design software, which will be made available on Mac and PC.

    SCS/Track electronically manages ad production, preventing lost and incorrect ads in deadline-driven advertising departments. The system interfaces with all desktop ad creation software, including Multi-Ad's Creator, Creator 2, Quark XPress and FreeHand.

    In addition, the Biloxi (Miss.) SUN HERALD (50k) has signed a contract with Software Consulting Services to purchase its Layouy-8000 automated ad dummying system to replace its Collier-Jackson World Class Series Layout system.

    Layout-8000 features an enhanced user interface, including drag-and-drop ad repositioning and color-coding to differentiate page elements on screen. At the paper, the platform-independent Layout-8000 will run on Windows NT and will support three workstations in a client-server configuration.
