  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS INC.
    The LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL has installed this Ann Arbor, Mich.-based company's AdManagerPro system along with its ClassFlow pagination product. The PONCA CITY NEWS (11k) of Oklahoma, has installed ArchiveIQue and LiveIQue.

    Additionally, five sites have recently installed Baseview's CirculationPro including three in the Paxton Media Group chain. The NORTHERN VIRGINIA DAILY (15K) of Strasburg, Va., has installed eight ProductionManagerPro workstations. The paper is also using Basview's AdGrabber system.

  • GEAC PUBLISHING SYSTEMS
    This Tampa, Fla.-based division of Geac Computer Corp. Ltd. has released FlashNEWS, the latest in its Media Command suite of editorial products, designed for use on a palm-held Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) device running under the Palm Operating System.

    Geac's FlashNEWS allows photographers and reporters to file breaking news pictures and copy, as XML (eXtensible Markup Language) e-mail attachments, from the scene of a story, using a modem-equipped PDA and a cell phone or a wireless modem. The device is intended to be used in near-deadline circumstances where a full-sized laptop and fixed line connection is impossible or inappropriate.

    In addition, Geac has signed an agreement with McPherson Media Group, publishers of the SHEPPARTON NEWS and 14 other Australian regional titles, to become the first fully integrated site using Geac's Media and Sales Command system. The Genera architecture, upon which the Command system is based, in conjunction with its real-time Web output capabilities, will allow the company to rationalize its current operating environment and reap operational and financial benefits.

    Lastly, Geac has installed Circulation Command Matrix at IHT Distributors, importers and distributors of foreign press in the United Kingdom. Circulation Command new offers the ability to use multiple currencies allowing clients to be invoiced in their chosen currency, and an interface to the Sage Line 100 sales ledger has also been supplied. The new 12-seat Matrix Wholesale module replaces a UNIX-based system.

    GRAPHIC ENTERPRISES INC. This North Canton, Ohio-based supplier of output systems has announced a number of recent sales.

    The GAINESVILLE (Fla.) SUN (53k) has purchased a STATUS page and plate tracking system. In Texas, the LAREDO MORNING TIMES (21k) has purchased the PageCheck remote soft proofing system and the TYLER MORNING NEWS TELEGRAM (43k) has purchased the Internet proofing module of PageCheck. Also in Texas, American Color has purchased the BlackMagic News Extra color management system.

    Other BlackMagic buyers include North Carolina's CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, the WALL STREET JOURNAL and the NEW YORK TIMES.

    The DENVER POST has purchased Ink Manager for ink presetting, while three newspapers -- Tennessee's JACKSON SUN (40k), Virginia's WINCHESTER STAR (21k, evening) and Louisiana's ALEXANDRIA DAILY TOWN TALK (38k) -- have all purchased a Tescas 2470 dedicated copy-dot scanner.

  • KODAK POLYCHROME GRAPHICS
    This Norwalk, Conn.-based company has announced a mutual certification with ECRM Imaging Systems. Kodak Approval Type 2 digital proofing media will be used on the ECRM (Tewksbury, Mass.) DesertCat 88 digital proofer and platesetter.

    The ECRM DesertCat 88 produces imposed, eight- or four-page digital contract proofs that replicate the actual dot shapes, structures and color densities that will appear on the final printed piece. Approval Type 2 media enables a wide range of proofing-enabled computer-to-plate devices to generate the quality of Kodak Approval proofs, and creates real halftone dots on the intended printing stock.

    Several newspapers in Asia have recently installed the NewsWay system from this Israeli company, which has U.S. offices in Princeton, N.J. ProImage's web browser-based system resolves workflow requirements at the print plant and controls, manages and reports on workflow from front-end systems to output.

    ProImage has also installed NewsWay at USA TODAY (1.3m) of Arlington, Va., the LOS ANGELES TIMES (75k), the DAILY TELEGRAPH of London, England, MILLIYET AND SABAH of Turkey, the INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE and LIBERATION of Paris, France, and DIE ZEIT of Germany.

    Based in Denver, this company has announced the release of the first major upgrade to Quark Digital Media System (QuarkDMS). The new version, 1.5, will provide additional tools to help publishers reuse valuable media assets created in any software application.

    QuarkDMS 1.5 will improve content-intensive publishing workflows. The interface for Mac OS and Windows clients has been expanded to allow users to check in and set attributes for multiple files or folders in a single operation, use context menus to perform common tasks, and drag and drop assets or folders to the desktop for rapid check-out. The query interface allows users to search for documents or layouts based on assets they contain, build new queries based on existing queries, and prompt for user input when a query is run.

    Based in Rockville, Md., this U.S. division of the Danish company has signed 11 deals in the final quarter of 2000, which involve the SAXoPRESS Content Management System, the Publicus Online Publishing System, as well as upgrades to existing SAXoPRESS installations.

    Sales in North America include the American Chemical Society (ACS) of Washington, D.C., Swift Newspapers Inc. of Reno, Nev., Zeus Communications of Stockbridge, Mich., and New Jersey Lawyer. Sales in Europe include INGENIOREN, a Danish magazine, LAAGENDALSPOSTEN of Kongsberg, Norway, as well as two dailies and the local government in Denmark, and a Swedish newspaper group.

    This Dundee, Scotland, U.K.-based company has launched a new feature for its ASSET content management systems, which includes full support for SQL databases and a web browser-based content workflow management system.

    Televisual's ASSET FLOW system includes a browser-based front-end where users can define desks and specify where copy is input from, and where it is output to. ASSET includes full-text indexing, so automatic routing works for both text and images.
