  • ADVANCED TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INC.
    This Wilmington, Mass.-based software developer and systems integrator of advertising, remote ad management, editorial/pagination and circulation publishing systems has announced that a multi-site installation of seven Journal Register Co. suburban publications in Pennsylvania. The papers have gone into full production with the ATS NewsDeskII Editorial/Pagination System.

    A wide area network connection provides six sites with remote access to and from the NewsDeskII editorial system's pair of NT servers with Octopus High Availability software for server redundancy, centrally located in Ardmore, Pa.

    ATS also said that it had installed a MediaDesk editorial system at the PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY in New Jersey. Unlike typical conversions, the PRESS (78k) brought all newsroom desks live at the same time on the same day. In addition to the installation of the ATS MediaDesk system, the PRESS also simultaneously implemented a redesign as well as a web-size conversion.

    With U.S. headquarters in Bedford, Mass., this division of the Canadian company Creo Products Inc. has announced the release of PDF Seps2Comp 1.5, the latest version of the Acrobat page composition utility that enables pre-press professionals to transform color-separated PDF files into composite documents.

    The new system transforms a color-separated PDF file output from page layout applications such as Adobe PageMaker and Quark XPress into a composite, live document that can be later edited and manipulated in the same manner as any other PDF file. Included in version 1.5 is a preview for the inspection of overprints prior to merging the pre-separated files into a composite document. Version 1.5 is also available with the S2C Plateview option, which is used to examine the merged composite file.

  • DIAMONDSOFT INC.
    Based in Mill Valley, Calif., this provider of software tools has shipped version 1.0 of Font Reserve Server. Multiple-users of Font Reserve Server will gain access to fonts from a single source, while administrative controls ensure appropriate use of fonts from a design production, and legal standpoint.

    The new version consolidates all the fonts in the company into a database, providing any user, anywhere, with access via the local network or the Internet. The database runs on Windows NT and communicates with Macintosh-based clients over TCP/IP. Font Reserve Server, an extension of DiamondSoft's font management program Font Reserve, is designed specifically to address font problems encountered by workgroups.

    Edgil's eCommerce Option provides secure access from a web server to a locally resident EdgCapture system using either the customer's intranet or the Internet, and allows customers the ability to extend their investment by taking payments over the Web in a seamless and secure manner. The eCommerce Option for EdgCapture 3.x systems includes a variety of Edgil-supplied methods for interfacing with the customer's web applications.

    Based in San Mateo, Calif., this wholly owned subsidiary of Artwork Systems NV has launched its suite of software products to the PDF enterprise and corporate communications marketplace. Enfocus PitStop Professional, PitStop Server, PowerUp PDF and WebPerfect PDF provide advanced, as well as automated, capabilities for editing, correcting and validating PDF document workflows.

    New Hampshire's largest daily newspaper, the UNION LEADER (64k) of Manchester, N.H., has recently installed this Cincinnati-based company's Digital Collections DC4 photo production and archiving system.

    Gannett Media Technologies International's (GMTI) DC4 system manages newswire-photo satellite feeds as well as digital and scanned photo workflow for the UNION LEADER's entire publishing operations, including the NEW HAMPSHIRE SUNDAY NEWS. The PC-server-based software application, which can be accessed through Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Navigator web browsers, runs on the combined software platform of the Linux operating system from Red Hat Software and the Oracle8 database. The DC4 system is also available for Sun Microsystems' Solaris, AIX from IBM, and the UX from Hewlett-Packard operating systems.

  • THE SOFTWARE CONSTRUCTION CO.
    PEOPLE magazine and the Northwest Fisheries Science Center have recently purchased the SCC MediaServer Production and Archive database system. The MediaServer installation from The Software Construction Co. (SCC) of Atlanta at PEOPLE magazine will serve as a central photo desk for wire and staff photos, as well as a repository for their photo archive. The sale to PEOPLE magazine marks the second installation within the Time Inc. organization, along with SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazine.

    The Northwest Fisheries Science Center is one of five research centers of National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Fisheries, and is responsible for providing scientific and technical support for the management, conservation and development of the region's marine fishery resources. The SCC MediaServer system provides the center with a central imaging database for the storage of photos shot with digital cameras and transmitted directly from the field.
