The updated version, InDesign 1.5.2, provides integration with print production workflows, as well as non-PostScript printing support for Macintosh users. California's ANTELOPE VALLEY PRESS (57k) has signed a contract with this Springville, Utah-based supplier of publishing systems for a complete advertising, editorial and database-centered newspaper publishing system. On the advertising side, the ANTELOPE VALLEY PRESS plans to install AdSpeed for ROP display ads and ClassSpeed for classified advertising. Sixteen ClassSpeed seats will be used to sell, schedule and build approximately 700 line ads every week. Twelve AdSpeed 5.0 applications will be used to manage display ads from creation to full-page pagination. Adobe InDesign is integrated directly into AdSpeed 5.0's core architecture as its advertising composition engine. NewsSpeed editorial system, which consists primarily of PageSpeed and SpeedWriter (DTI's text writer), will be installed in the newsroom, and ImageSpeed will manage the paper's photos and graphics. Headquartered in Cambridge, United Kingdom, this supplier of pre-press equipment has acquired the complete MAXWorkFlow product line from Harris Publishing Systems Corp. of Melbourne, Fla. The purchase of the product line, which was completed through Harlequin Ltd., includes all source code, intellectual property and four pending patents. As part of the acquisition, Harlequin will hire the development and technical support teams for the MAXWorkFlow product. MAXWorkFlow is a patent-pending tool for automating the process of proofing and output to film, plate or direct print. The drag-and-drop features of the MAXWorkFlow System Design Palette make pre-press setups simple. Integrated with the Harlequin RIPFlow and Jaws RIP technologies and options, the product has more than 20 different modules that perform tasks such as proofing, high-resolution outputting, EPS and PDF optimization, down sampling, composite proofing, imposition, trapping and pre-flighting multiple file formats, including PDF. Content providers can focus on maintaining their content database rather than on the production and distribution of the final packaged product. SoftLock has also announced that it has selected YellowBrix Inc.'s IntelliClix technology to power a new contextual market product. The agreement will provide consumers with up-to-the-minute news as well as opportunities to purchase additional relevant content at competitive prices. By integrating their products into the network of web sites feature in IntelliClix, SoftLock adds a contextual commerce capability to its suite of digital content marketing tools. Team ASA Inc. is the first company to support both copper- and fiber-based gigabit Ethernet network interface cards (NIC) for Macintosh OS 8, OS 9, OS X Server and now OS X Beta. The Copper Stallion GT uses Category-5 cabling with an operating distance range of 100 meters and uses multi-mode cable. It can be operated at distances of up to 0.5 km. The Stallion Gigabit series fiber and copper adapters are an advanced series of PCI NICs utilizing the IEEE P802.3z and P802.3ab specification for support of 1 gigabit Ethernet. The network, called RAP 21, the French acronym for the African Press Network for the 21st Century, will act as an alert system for press freedom attacks on the continent and will also provide information about management and training opportunities.
