European system integrators Systematics, Atteso and Pape + Partner Media GmbH (PPI) plan to base their publishing systems on this San Jose-based company's InScope software. Adobe InScope provides system integrators with a web-based workflow and asset management system to meet customers' complex workflow and cross-media publishing requirements. The first Atteso project in Germany is the development of a publishing management system for editors called VM-R. Pape + Partner Media GmbH, a division of PPI AG (plc), develops software for industrial and automated newspaper production. The DAILY OKLAHOMAN (199k) has chosen R-Logic, a retention marketing system, from this Denver, Co.-based marketing consulting company. The system helps newspapers measure circulation efforts by providing a definitive picture of subscription retention, and measures continuously, rather than at a single point in time or at preset intervals. It allows newspapers to assess subscription acquisition efforts across several dimensions including sales source, term, service type, offer, payment method and demographics. Graphic Enterprise Inc.'s (GEI) TECSA 2470 and 2570 are part of a family of large-format, variable-resolution, flatbed, copydot scanners designed to meet the pre-press industry's requirements for accuracy, quality and productivity. The two scanners are designed to scan line art, text and halftone images from paste-ups, bromide, positive and negative films. Special illumination techniques hide the cut lines associated with scanning paste-ups. Both scanners offer selectable resolution from 400 to 1270 dots-per-inch. Based in Germany, this company has announced the North American availability of its Coloropen Tools: Scanopen, Viewopen and Printopen. Heidelberg will be offering its Color Management knowledge, including data capture and printing press, as a communication link across the entire workflow. Heidelberg's new Version 4 release of Scanopen, Viewopen and Printopen are designed to provide support tools for the entire publishing workflow. Scanopen creates a profile for any scanner in a matter of minutes, generating the basis for accurate image capture. Viewopen's key features include monitor calibration and profiling, while the new version of Printopen improves upon the integration of proof profiles. Headquartered in Houston, this developer of help-desk and call-management software is offering special discounts on HelpTrac 6.0 and HelpTrac LITE, to be used by all types of industries, to better manage their customer-service desks. In conjunction with Vision GmbH of Munich, Germany, this Denver, Co.-based company has announced the release of the QuarkDMS Archive module, and XTensions module for Quark Digital Media System, a digital asset management system for publishers. Developed jointly by Quark and Vision, the QuarkDMS Archive module provides near-line archival storage for valuable digital media elements such as text, graphics and documents. QuarkDMS uses saved queries to determine which assets should be archived or restored at a particular time. The files are then moved from QuarkDMS-managed file systems to near-line digital linear tape (DLT), but all asset metadata and thumbnails are left on-line. This Amsterdam-based software developer has recently announced Smart Layout for Adobe InDesign. Smart Layout is beneficial for any InDesign user working with multiple frames or multiple columns per article, such as magazines, newspapers, catalogs and database publishers. Smart Layout's intelligence and automation improves productivity, offering a more consistent publication, and is available for Adobe InDesign v1.5 for Macintosh (MacOS 9) and Windows (NT 4, 98, 2000). Several major system integrators, such as Managing Editor Inc., Mediasystemen BV and Sema Group sae, have implemented Smart Layout into their product offerings.
