  • ADSTAR.COM INC.
    The Marina Del Rey, Calif.-based channel for the placement of print and on-line classifieds has announced several improvements to its classified-ad sales web site, Advertise123.com.

    New features include additional media selection criteria, live on-line customer support and single-entry, multipaper ad-purchasing services.

    Additionally, AdStar has added 13 state-regional newspaper networks to Advertise123.com, giving advertisers the ability to create one ad, submit it to the newspaper network of their choice via the Advertise123 site, and pay one fee for all the papers in that network.

    In addition, advertisers can now search for newspaper publications on Advertise123.com by circulation size or by clicking on a graphical map of the U.S. After a publication is selected, advertisers can find circulation information for that publication.

  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS INC.
    Southern Newspapers Inc. (SNI) of Houston, Texas, has licensed a system from this Ann Arbor, Mich.-based company for use in 15 of its newspapers' locations. Baseview's CirculationPro began installation at five of SNI's papers in September and it is planned that all 15 papers will be up and running on CirculationPro by Christmas.

    With the system's Web Import feature, staff members can upload information from the web site and incorporate it into the circulation database.

  • CCI EUROPE
    This Danish company has entered into an agreement with Roularta Media Group (RMG) of Roeselare, Belgium. CCI will implement its AdDesk Production System at RMG and afterwards combine its AdDesk with its NewsDesk System. The first project began this past May, while the second project will begin in the spring of 2001.

    The new systems from CCI will be used for ad production and page make-up in the group's freesheet environment where approximately 2000 pages are produced per week. Additionally, ads from the CCI systems will be exported to the group's on-line products.

  • EVERSTREAM
    The Cleveland, Ohio-based creators of interactive digital streaming media have announced the completion of a round of funding, in which Knight Ridder Ventures, Gannett Co. Inc., Pulitzer Inc., Capstar Partners and others invested a total $8.54 million in the company.

    Everstream provides locally branded versions of its digital network of music, news, entertainment and advertising to owners of Internet sites, principally newspaper web sites.

  • PENTAWAVE INC.
    The WASHINGTON POST (780k) has selected this Scottsdale, Ariz.-based application service provider's AutoChooser cross-media technology to provide a fully automated advertising management system to automotive advertisers.

    Pentawave's AutoChooser will enable the POST to provide a simple point-and-click, web-based system that simplifies advertising creation and will be incorporated into AdSite, the POST's web-based tool for serving advertisers.

    Pentawave has also announced that Maine's PORTLAND PRESS HERALD (75k) has deployed IdealHire, an on-line job board for classified advertising. IdealHire allows newspapers to become local job portals by connecting qualified employees and employers within a specific region.

  • PROIMAGE
    Germany's DIE ZIET (450k) has installed this Israel-based company's NewsWay system. ProImage's NewsWay, provided by Systematics AG, ProImage's partner in Germany, will be used to manage digital workflow between DIE ZIET's editorial offices in Munich and remote print sites in Munich, Frankfurt and Ahrensburg.

    The newspaper publishes several editions and it will use NewsWay to control its planning, proofing, RIPing, imposition and transmission. NewsWay will also gather editorial layout information from DIE ZEIT's ALS page planning software.

  • SAXOTECH A/S
    The Aalborg, Denmark-based supplier of editorial systems which has offices in Rockville, Md., now has the right to sell all products of Olso, Norway-based FotoWare A/S, including Color Factory and FotoStation. The agreement will also mean that the Color Factory Image Processing system will be implemented as soon as possible in the SAXoTECH Content Management System.

    Color Factory is replacing the current Kiralfi PhotoRace system as a new engine for he SAXoPRESS automatic image processor, the SAXoImageProcessor System.

  • THOMAS TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS INC.
    The Horsham, Pa.-based provider of content management, e-commerce and publishing software have announced the availability of PrintAbility Pro, the latest version of the print publishing component of the company's e-catalog software.

    PrintAbility Pro allows users to extract product data from a product information database, organize and stylize that information in a variety of formats, and output it to a desktop-publishing application, such as Quark XPress, for print.

    The tool is built on open technology and is designed to work with e-business applications such as IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite, SAQQARA's Product Server and BroadVision.

  • VIGNETTE CORP.
    The Austin, Texas-based Vignette and Artesia Technologies of Rockville, Md., have announced that they will create a combined e-business system that allows companies to implement streamlined processes for creating and managing rich media.

    This will allow companies to produce content once, but deliver it in various formats over multiple channels, including broadband, wireless, personal computers and interactive set-top boxes. The software will be provided using Sun Enterprise servers, enabling companies to implement media-based revenue streams that operate from central repositories.

    This Boulder, Co.-based Internet company has entered into agreements with the STAR TRIBUNE of Minneapolis (407k) and the DENVER POST (243k). By creating co-branded Word of Mouth web sites, with links on the home pages of both newspapers' web sites, the STAR TRIBUNE and POST will offer consumers a forum for exchanging opinions about local merchants and services.

    Users will be able to post a question on the site and let the community deliver the answer. In addition, e-mail alerts will be available to keep visitors up-to-date with the latest reviews on subjects that they choose.
