  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS INC.
    The Ann Arbor, Mich.-based supplier of publishing systems based on Macintosh, has said that in August Hometown Newspapers of Howell, Mich. (14k), upgraded five of its sites to the IQue Editorial System version 3.1.6, along with other upgrades, linking all its titles together with one database platform.

    Another Michigan site, the FLINT JOURNAL (94k), installed 99 NewsEditPro IQue with Hot Backup workstations. Included in those are 44 pagination workstations.

    Georgia's BRUNSWICK NEWS (15k) installed CirculationPro in August, using Subscription Handler, Distribution Handler and Preprint Handler on two workstations in the circulation department. The Brunswick News also uses Baseview's editorial and advertising solutions.

    These upgrades were among 42 sites Baseview worked with in August.

  • DALiM SOFTWARE GmbH
    This Kehl, Germany-based supplier of pre-press workflow and production technology, has announced its support of Mac OS X, Apple's next-generation operating system. DALiM Software will work on development of the Linux-compatible SWiNG workflow systems and future generations of software specifically for Mac OS X.

    SWiNG is a family of pre-configured "plug-and-play" workflow automation software with PDF 1.3/PDF-X support. Each SWiNG package uses specific tools from DALiM's TWiST workflow software.

  • IMATION ENTERPRISES CORP.
    This Oakdale, Minn.-based supplier of graphic arts and digital technology has announced improvements in its Imation Media Manager, a digital asset management (DAM) system.

    The company said that it has expanded the system with a third-generation Web interface written in ColdFusion technology, allowing customization by more than 100,000 ColdFusion developers throughout the world.

  • EASTMAN KODAK CO.
    This Rochester, N.Y.-based supplier of cameras and film has announced a new scanner and new digital cameras.

    The Kodak Professional RFS 3600 Film Scanner scans both negative and positive 35mm film, including black-and-white.

    Features include a 3600-dots-per-inch (dpi) optical resolution, a dynamic range of 3.6, 12-bit data conversion, film-specific look-up tables, connectivity with either an SCSI II or USB port, acquire module for Macintosh, TWAIN data source for Microsoft Windows-based systems and batch-scanning capabilities.

    The company has also announced new pricing for it DCS 660, 560, 620, 620x, 330 and 315 digital cameras.

    Recommended list prices on these high-end, 6-megapixel models -- the 660, 560, 620 and 620x -- have been cut from $24,995 to $15,995.

    The recommended list price for Kodak Professional DCS 330 Digital Camera, with 3-megapixel resolution and complete SLR functionality, is down $1000 to $3495. The recommended list price on the Kodak Professional DCS 315 Digital Camera has dropped $1200 to $1795. To "sweeten" this offer, the company says that the DCS 315 comes with a new 24-70mm IX-Nikkor lens at no extra charge.

    Reduced prices offered under this program are available for this limited time in the U.S. only from authorized dealers of Kodak Professional DCS digital cameras.

    The Houston-based software supplier is now offering a shareware version of HelpTrac, its help desk management software.

    HelpTrac, a complete help desk-customer support software system, helps businesses provide better service to customers and in-house users.

    Pageflex Mpower enables PrintCommerce users to create and produce highly customized, sophisticated marketing documents from a Web-browser for one-to-one marketing communications delivered in print or PDF.

    Pageflex Mpower uses customer data entered in a Web-browser to select personalized text and graphics for assembly in flexible design templates that automatically generate marketing collateral like brochures and data sheets on demand.

    This Internet software supplier has announced it has added platform support for Java, eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and wireless application protocol (WAP) to its ArticleBASE Web content management, workflow and dynamic publishing system.

    Designed to leverage the latest technological capabilities in the Apple WebObjects 4.5 development platform, ArticleBASE 2.1's newly integrated XML and WAP support will allow data exchange with other XML-based applications and enables site access from any browser, PDA or cell phone.

  • SCREAMINGMEDIA INC.
    The New York City-based provider of digital content aggregation, distribution and integration services has released SiteWare 3.0, a new version of its end-to-end syndication and publishing solution.

    SiteWare enables clients to receive custom-filtered content from the more than 2800 titles in ScreamingMedia's Digital Content Network. The content can be automatically integrated into the client's Web site or intranet in real-time; or, through the Editor's Desk tool, the client can hand-select which articles, multimedia offerings, and additional pieces of content to publish.

    The company also said that ispi, a Lincoln, Neb.-based Internet application development company, has become a content provider.

    Ispi will provide ScreamingMedia daily content from StatePaper.com (news focusing on state news and information), Huskernews.com (news about the Cornhusker football team), The OREGON DAILY EMERALD (the independent student-run newspaper at the University of Oregon) the DAILY NEBRASKAN (the student-run newspaper of the University of Nebraska) and Xpressnews.com (local and regional news about Nebraska).

  • X-RITE INC.
    The Grandville, Mich.-based provider of technology solutions that measure color and light, has announced that it has acquired the assets of Optronik GmbH, a German provider of color and light measurement instrumentation and software. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

    Headquartered in Berlin, Germany, Optronik GmbH was founded in 1968 by Dr-Ing. Johannes Fleischer, the company's sole shareholder and managing director. Fleischer will remain with the company for the foreseeable future, overseeing research and development, and the respected Optronik name will be retained.
