Headquartered in Burnaby, B.C., Canada and Bedford, Mass., this supplier to the graphic arts industry has introduced PDF Seps2Comp 1.5, the new version of an Adobe Acrobat utility that enables pre-press professionals to transform color-separated PDFs (Portable Document Files) into composite documents. Creoscitex's PDF Seps2Comp 1.5 plug-in for Adobe Acrobat transforms a color-separated PDF output from page layout applications such as Adobe PageMaker and Quark XPress, into a composite, live document that can be later edited and manipulated in the same manner as any other PDF. The new version is also available with the S2C Plateview option, which features the separation viewer plug-in component from Prinergy 2.0, also from CreoScietex. CreoScitex is on the Web at http://www.creoscitex.com/. The DAILY DEAL of New York City, has adopted this company's automation robot for its on-line daily financial newspaper. DeskNetAPS connects and controls existing technology and applications to eliminate the tedious tasks involved in migrating content from one medium to another. The DAILY DEAL has tailored DeskNetAPS to perform three functions starting with the automatic conversion of content from the Quark Publishing System into a media-neutral format (eXtensible Markup Language -- XML). The second involves the paper's approval process in which DeskNetAPS creates automatic PDFs (Portable Document Files) for proofing. And third, a new automated indexing feature enables the paper to easily generate a list of the companies mentioned throughout the publication. DeskNet, also of New York City, is on the Web at http://www.desknetinc.com/. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based makers of high-resolution, full-color, single-shot digital cameras for professional photographers has partnered with five major dealers covering key regions throughout the United States. Each dealer will work hand-in-hand with assigned sales representatives of Foveon to educate photographers who both already own a photo-capable computer and those who require a complete portable studio. Retailers can offer the option of purchasing the camera either as a stand-alone professional digital camera or as part of a color-profiled capture and image processing system. Foveon, has also introduced the Macintosh version of its FoveonLab image processing application. This enables Foveon-camera owners to process Foveon-camera images on a Macintosh. The Macintosh version of FoveonLab includes the same features as were previously only available for Windows 98 and can also pull images from a Foveon camera through a network when the camera is equipped with networking software such as Miramar Systems' PCMacLAN file server. Foveon is on the Web at http://www.foveon.net/. The WASHINGTON TIMES (97k) has purchased several software and hardware tools for its pre-press workflow from this Northern Canton, Ohio-based company. Included in the purchase from GEI were BlackMagic News Extra, which includes remote proofing with ICC profiles, Real Dot Technology that reproduces the actual dot from the proof, plate changes for different editions and cross-platform access; GUSS Spooling, which immediately clears the workstation, regardless of printer availability; Imaging Station, a raster server that enables scanners and existing RIPs to output to a wide range of proofing, CTP and image-setting devices; PageCheck, and Internet/intranet proofing system designed to catch pre-press errors before the job enters the workflow; Q-Manager with Page Pairing module, which is designed to manage the flow of bitmap data and perform a number of manipulations using BitLink Engines, and the TECSA 2470 copydot scanner, offering a 24-by-14.4-inch scan area and maximum 1270dpi (dots-per-inch). GEI is on the Web at http://www.geiworldwide.com/. The SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER (114k) has selected this Melbourne, Fla.-based company to assist it in its Web-to-print newspaper launch. The paper, purchased from the Hearst Corp., will be installing JazBox, a cross-media editorial tool, on reporter workstations, graphic and page designer stations and correspondent laptops, as well as Baseview products at its new headquarters. Additionally, the paper will be using Harris' AdPower to allow ad reps to set up unlimited accounts, publications and contracts, as well as serving to improve workflow and allow ads to be taken automatically over the Internet with its AdWebster feature. Harris is on the Web at http://www.harris.com/. Tribune Media Services, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Tribune Co. and Knight Ridder of San Jose have announced that they have reached an agreement to combine TMS' on-line content delivery agency, NewsCom, and Knight Ridder's online photographic delivery agency, PressLink. The two companies will form a joint venture to operate the new service, which will be headquartered at NewsCom's Los Angeles facility. The combination of NewsCom and PressLink join two complementary services that provide domestic and international clients with Web-based access to a broad range of news and feature photos, informational graphics, text and other editorial products. Combined, the two companies distribute content from more than 50 providers to more than 8000 media customers worldwide. NewsCom serves a clientele that is heavily international while the customer base of PressLink is largely domestic. Formerly a part of the Times Mirror Co., NewsCom became a unit of Tribune Media Services following the recent merger of Tribune and Times Mirror. Created by Knight Ridder in 1985, and opened to non-Knight Ridder papers a year later, PressLink has been part of Knight Ridder's Philadelphia-based MediaStream since 1996. Tribune Media Services is on the Web at http://www.tms.tribune.com, while Knight Ridder is at http://www.knightridder.com. This Grandville, Mich.-based provider of technology that measures color and light was a supplier to the Eastman Kodak Co.'s on-site Imaging Center at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. In addition to the Olympics, X-Rite is also an official supplier to Kodak for its imaging centers at special events throughout the year, including the Goodwill Games and Commonwealth Games.
