    Headquartered in Burbank, Calif., this digital imaging company has announced the introduction of Genuine Fractals PagePro XT, an XTension for Quark XPress, allowing designers to place, crop and resize Genuine Fractals images within Quark XPress layouts.

    Altamira's PagePro XT complements the company's Adobe Photoshop plug-ins, Genuine Fractals 2.0 and Genuine Fractals PrintPro.   • ARTESIA TECHNOLOGIES INC.
    The Rockville, Md.-based providers of digital asset management systems has announced that Random House Inc. has selected the company to support an initiative to create a framework for a next-generation publishing system.

    As part of the agreement, Random House, a division of Bertelsmann AG, has adopted Artesia's TEAMS digital asset management, which manages all types of rich media, including text, pictures and audio/video recordings.

    Additionally, Artesia Technologies' Professional Services staff is working with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Random House employees on the development of organizational practices for the use of digital asset management.

  • GLOBAL GRAPHICS
    This independent developer, manufacturer and distributor of high-performance equipment for the graphic arts industry has announced that it has acquired the complete Digital Publishing software division of 5D Solutions Ltd. of London for a purchase price of Euro 24.7 million ($US21.6 million) of which Euro 3 million ($US2.62 million) was paid in cash.

    The purchase created the formation of Jaws Systems Ltd., a new subsidiary of Harlequin within the Printing Software Division of Global Graphics, and includes the Jaws RIP and PDF Creator software product lines. 5D's Visual Effects Division, which creates film and video software, will continue to be run and operated by 5D Solutions Ltd.

    Headquartered in Iselin, N.J., this company has officially introduced its core product code-named "FinalWord," which allows users to edit documents using a web browser. Indocs' new application focuses on managing the review, editing and approval cycle before the final job reaches the print production stage.

    FinalWord is targeted at corporate marketing staff, designers and publishers and addresses the need to create, review and approve visual design and content in a global environment. Other markets include design/creative agencies and printers, who access and manage a corporation's documents and assets.

  • LATANA RESEARCH SOFTWARE CORP.
    The Fremont, Calif.-based provider of Portable Document Format (PDF) tools has announced an extension of its relationship with Enfocus Software Inc. of San Mateo, Calif.

    Latana said that it would include Enfocus' new PitStop Professional in two new PDF-based product bundles, PDFedit Suite and PDF Pro Collection, as well as updated versions of its popular PDF Essentials and PDF PowerPack.

    Latana has also announced that ImageWorks, the first image-editing program for Acrobat, began shipping in September. PDF ImageWorks allows image editing and manipulation of PDF images where they appear in the PDF document and does not require any additional external applications. Features include color spacing, resolution, sizing, location, orientation, and appearance of images for all types of PDF usage, such as print, the Web or CD-ROM.

  • QUARK INC.
    The Denver-based maker of page layout and data management systems has made a number of recent announcements:

    -- The company is currently showing the latest version of Quark Digital Media System, Quark DMS 1.5. New features include collection of assets, e-mail notification, XML support, query enhancements and improvements to the user interface. Quark said that Quark DMS 1.5 would be "available later this year."

    -- I.M.A.G.E. Inc. of New York City and RoundTripper of San Francisco have announced a new module for Quark DMS. This XTension automates and manages the import and export of large amounts of data into and out of Quark DMS, software that allows customers to manage a virtually unlimited number of text files, images and other digital resources.

    -- The company announced the release of the Image Editing XTensions module for Quark DMS, which is a Web-based tool that lets users perform common image manipulation operations from any Web-enabled computer. Users of the Image Editing module do not need to install software or check out large files over the network in order to use the software.

    -- With Collabria Inc. of San Mateo, Calif., Quark has announced a strategic marketing and technology relationship. Under the terms of the agreement, Collabria will integrate Quark DMS into the Collabria PrintCommerce service to extend the capabilities of its set of Internet-based products for the printing and graphic arts industry.

    -- The company has released a beta version of the Quark Copy Desk Special Edition software to system integrators. The company has also released the XTensions Developer Kit for Quark Copy Desk Special Edition.

    -- Quark has announced a strategic alliance with DeepBridge Content Solutions of New York City. DeepBridge, a longstanding Quark integrator, is now identified as the "premier Quark integrators for both publishing and Internet enterprises."

    Formerly VST Technolgies, the San Francisco-based company has announced that it is now shipping units of its 120GB VST FireWire-based RAID array (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) for FireWire-equipped Apple Macintosh computers.

    The VST FireWire RAID array is a compact, portable tower that supports up to four VST FireWire hard drives, which can be used separately or together for the efficient storage and rapid transfer of digital data, and is one of the first to offer users both a compact size and a built-in battery pack. Web designers and publishers, television film crews, 3-D animators, musicians and audio engineers, as well as millions of digital video and music fans, can capture and store large amounts of digital data on location.
