The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company has announced the completion of its acquisition of the eCamera business unit of PhotoAccess.com Corp., which includes PhotoChip, a high-performance digital still camera chip, as well as an embedded modem and software that allows digital-camera users to connect directly to a phone line and upload photos to a predetermined destination. Agilent acquired technology that, when fully developed, offers manufacturers of digital cameras a process for posting photos directly on a web site, where they can be viewed, shared or printed. A Lowly Apprentice Production Inc.'s (ALAP) ImagePort improves workflow, saves gigabytes of hard-disk space, saves time and increases design flexibility. ImagePort 1.1, compatible with Quark XPress 4.1 or later for Macintosh and Quark XPress 4.04 or later for Windows, not only eliminates the need to flatten Photoshop images, but it also provides familiar controls over layers, channels and paths within Quark XPress. The Bedford, Mass.-based division of Creo Products Inc. has released PressTouch, a new Macintosh application that combines and extends the functionality of its predecessors, MacFAF and Remake tools. The interactive CreoScitex Full Auto Frames (FAF) trapping tool and the Remake LW editing tool have been enhanced with PressTouch, and new viewing, editing trapping and page assembly features have been added. To allow the distribution of trapping tasks, the new Frame Decision List (FDL) file format, which is now supported by PressTouch and will also be supported by upcoming versions of Brisque and PS/M, is used to allow trapping decisions to be created, previewed, modified and executed on different workstations. Additionally, the British Columbia, Canada-based office of CreoScitex, and Purup-Eskofot A/S of Ballerup, Denmark, have jointly announced that they have reached an out-of-court agreement on several pending matters, the terms of which are confidential. The 4000 and 6000s can be upgraded to the 6000. Additionally from JOBO, the world's highest-resolution (10,500-by-13,100) four-by-five-inch digital scanning camera back is now available. The proScan 10500 generates 394-megabyte files (24-bit RGB) and is designed for professional photographers who don't need the archival qualities of four-by-five sheet film. Lastly, designed for use in ink jet printers, PhotoBryte Hi-gloss Photo Paper Heavy Weight in 13-by-19-inch size has been announced. This product is designed to create color proofs, posters, presentations, signage, decorations, charts and color photos by using web-downloaded, scanned, floppy-CD or digital photo images. MetaCommunications' InUnity 1.0 was recently announced as well, as a turnkey XML-based communications server that enables graphic arts companies to exchange print procurement and content information. The 1.0 package includes a set of predefined XML document schemas, and built-in translators for a variety of other XML standards such as JDF and JMF, with future support anticipated for emerging standards such as PrintTalk and PCX. Lastly, MetaCommunications has announced the release of JobManager 3.0 offering features such as estimating, custom reports and InUnity support. Neasi-Weber International (NWI) will first integrate its DISCUS circulation software with web access so that newspapers' customers can start and pay for subscriptions, initiate vacation stops or register complaints on-line. Second, NWI plans to extend GDT-Nova's web capability to its ADMARC software, which will allow publications' display advertisers to reserve space, pay for advertisements and check billing and account information via the Internet. The Wayland, Mass.-based company has announced a new set of strategic decision support tools for managers and chief information officers.
