    The Marina Del Rey, Calif.-based channel for the placement of print and on-line classifieds, has announced that it has added newspapers representing 25 new markets to its classified-ad portal, Advertise123.com.

    AdStar.com Inc.'s Advertise123.com offers advertisers the ability to create, schedule and pay for a classified ad in one or more of a growing number of print newspapers, as well as many on-line web sites, targeting more than 165 million people (76 percent of the U.S. metropolitan population).

    The Virginia-based software publisher has announced that ExtremeZ-IP 1.1.3 is now available as a free upgrade, providing optimizations for Windows 2000 on Intel, features, as well as performance enhancements on Windows NT 4.0 for both Intel and Alpha platforms.

    On Windows 2000, ExtremeZ-IP enables Macintosh workstations to access files from the server at least twice as fast as with Windows 2000's built-in Services for Macintosh (SFM). The software also supports the Service Locations Protocol (SLP) that allows users to browse the network for servers rather than having to remember their TCP/IP addresses. Support for SLP is still not available in SFM.

    Melbourne, Fla.-based provider of publishing systems for the newspaper industry has announced that Charleston Newspapers of West Virginia, which publishing a morning paper -- the CHARLESTON GAZETTE (51k) -- an evening newspaper owned by the Media News, Inc. group -- the CHARLESTON DAILY MAIL (40k) -- and a Sunday paper -- the GAZETTE MAIL (100k) -- has signed a contract for a 17-seat AdBase system for classified-ad input and classified pagination.

    Clients and servers will use Windows NT software with an SQL database. The papers will be interfaced to an Admarc financial system, will be using Mactive's Fax Manager Software for fax-in/fax-out and will be on-line to a credit-card clearing house program.

  • NET-LINX PUBLISHING SOLUTIONS
    The publishing systems supplier that was formed last summer with Net-Linx AG's acquisitions of CText Inc. and System Integrators Inc., has announced a reduction in force as a result of refining the strategic direction looking specifically at supporting the install base and future products.ÊThis reduction affects approximately eight percent of the workforce.

    The company said that the reduction did not affect research and development and that the continuing commitment from Net-Linx AG in terms of financial and technology resources "places Publishing Solutions in a strong, competitive position."

    Net-Linx also said that the "total acquisition" of CompuText Inc. of Houston is being completed and that CompuText technology will be integrated into the Net-Linx product line.ÊFurther, the company said that it is also investing in Cytura Corp. of Heathrow, Fla. and that it will be presenting Cytura's web products at IFRA.

    Lastly, the company said it was opening a new European headquarters in Dresden, Germany, which will house sales, marketing and engineering staff to deliver Europeanized products of the same standards as products developed in the United States.

Telescope's "meta-data" tags integrate with Mpower's content decision rules to select variable content, enabling the generation of one-to-one marketing documents.

    Additionally, Pageflex has announced that Konzept-iX will market and support Pageflex Mpower and Persona software in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Konzept-iX also maintains an internal department for developing Web-based application programming based on Pageflex Mpower and a certified reseller network in various locations of the above-mentioned countries.
