  • ACCESSARIZONA.COM
    Two Arizona web sites have announced a partnership that will enable users to access local video news clips anytime, throughout the day. This new arrangement provides Phoenix-area residents with a source for local, late-breaking news and traffic reports anytime.

    The sites feature streaming video newscasts on demand from KNXV-TV, the Scripps-Howard ABC-TV affiliate in Phoenix that calls itself Phoenix360.com, providing high-speed Internet access viewers with morning, noon and evening newscasts at a time that fits their schedules.

    Additionally, AccessArizona.com, the Cox Interactive Media site in Phoenix, offers features such as local stories, city site features interactive chat rooms, Doppler and satellite weather maps and forecasts, and traffic cams and road-construction reports.

  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS
    The KENTON TIMES (7k) of Ohio, has installed AdManagerPro with its classified and display database at four workstations. ClassFlow is being used to paginate classified advertising.

    ProductionManagerPro, the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Baseview's digital asset management solution, was installed on two workstations, as well as AdGrabber, which places finished ads and puts them on the page.

    The DAILY CHIEF UNION (4k) of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, also installed AdManagerPro and ProductionManagerPro, adding to its existing Baseview editorial system. The two Ohio papers share the same database.

  • EDGIL ASSOCIATES INC.
    TeleCheck Services Inc. and the North Chelmsford, Mass.-based Edgil have announced a partnership to combine e-payment expertise to enable newspapers to accept guaranteed check payments electronically.

    Edgil's EdgCapture system facilitates the processing of credit card payments for the advertising, circulation and new media departments of newspapers.

    A customer service representative receives the phone order and electronically sends the checking account information, via Edgil, to the TeleCheck Checks By Phone processing center, where the SmartAccount technology validates the banking numbers to reduce returned items, and the information is evaluated for fraud risk. After authorization, the transaction is settled electronically through the Automated Clearing House network and guaranteed funds are deposited into the newspaper's bank account, usually within two business days.

  • EPSON AMERICA INC.
    The Long Beach, Calif.-based imaging products company has announced the EPSON Expression 1640XL large format, color flatbed scanner, designed for graphic arts, photography and pre-press production.

    Succeeding the 836XL, the Expression 1640XL provides 1600-by-3200 dots per inch hardware resolution and is about 30 percent faster (in SCSI mode) than its predecessor. With its optional FireWire connectivity, the scanner offers increased speed and versatility for iMac DV, Power Mac G3, Power Mac G4 and PowerBook users.

    The Tampa, Fla.-based division of Canada's Geac Computer Corp. Ltd. has announced the launch of Route Command, a cost-effective circulation route management solution for the Palm hand-held computing device, which saves time and improves communication, customer service and productivity.

    Route Command allows the collection of paper return information and draw adjustments by product and drop. Payment information may be recorded and a receipt may be printed. The carrier can display the delivery manifest and re-sequence delivery order and, with appropriate authorization, can add, delete or change drops, publications and products.

    The Washington, D.C.-based publisher of tools for writing and deploying AppleScript has announced Scripter 2.5 with ScriptBase. An upgrade to its Scripter authoring package, 2.5 adds new features for intermediate to advanced scripters, such as the ability to search application terminologies, preserving and reinstating a result during debugging, an object model prober for exploring the live objects in a scriptable application, and support for alternate applet shells. Also, an online Apple Help system module is available, and, like Version 2.0, a single-user copy of ScriptBase is included in the Scripter package.

    The Cambridge, Mass.-based venture, funded by Bitstream Inc., has announced a partnership with Linotype Library GmbH, providers of the largest collection of fonts available from one Internet portal, to offer the complete Linotype Library on its e-commerce web site.

    With this agreement, MyFonts.com now offers users direct access to over 2000 fonts in the Linotype library. MyFonts.com's mission is to make fonts accessible to everyone, which benefits both users and the foundries.

    The Westford, Mass.-based company has announced its Openpages Partner Program, which creates partnerships between Openpages Inc. and a select set of companies, including three functional markets -- technology & solutions partners, consulting partners and channel partners, whose products and services complement the Openpages ContentWare suite of products.

    Among the companies to implement ContentWare -- to create, manage and deploy content including audio, video, graphics, photography and text to multiple channels -- is Media General's WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL (90k) of North Carolina.

    Openpages has also announced a partnership with ScreamingMedia, an aggregator and distributor of Web content. Openpages will offer syndication technology to customers by integrating ScreamingMedia's SiteWare technology with Openpages ContentWare, eliminating the numerous incompatible point-solutions previously used. By using SiteWare, clients will be able to receive content from ScreamingMedia's network of almost 470 content providers, such as The New York Times Syndicate and The Associated Press.

    The Arlington, Va.-based newspaper site announced an agreement with AT&T Wireless Services to provide news content for its AT&T Digital PocketNet service.

    The partnership allows USATODAY.com to expand its delivery of news and information to multiple platforms, specifically within the wireless Internet phone arena, while contributing to the overall quality of information offered by AT&T PocketNet service to its customers. This new source of news and information can now be accessed by cell phone through the AT&T Digital PocketNet service at no additional charge.
