  • ADSTAR.COM INC.
    The Marina del Rey, Calif.-based company has announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with KnowledgePoint, a developer of human resource management solutions, which will integrate co-branded versions of AdStar.com's classified-ad portal, Advertise123.com, into its Descriptions Now software and two human resources web sites, JobDescription.com and HRTools.com, and AdStar will integrate JobDescription.com into its Advertise123.com portal.

    Additionally, AdStar.com has announced its entry into a strategic alliance with business-to-business news, content and e-commerce destination, dbusiness.com, providing business users with a marketing service and tool that allows them to place locally targeted advertising. As part of the agreement, dbusiness.com will integrate a co-branded version of AdStar123.com into its web site.

    Also announced by AdStar.com, were the financial results for the three- and six-month periods, which ended June 30, 2000. Revenues for the second quarter 2000 increased by 66 percent to $621,000 compared to second quarter 1999 revenues of $374,000. Revenues for the first six months of 2000 increased to $1,192,000, over 50 percent more than the 1999 period revenues of $781,000.

  • THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
    The New York City-based news service, in conjunction with Redlands, Calif.-based ESRI, developers of geographic information system software, has announced the launch of MapShop, a new on-line mapping service, which will give AP's newspaper and broadcast members access to geographic map data and content, allowing the creation of news and map graphics for both print and multimedia.

    With MapShop, an authorized user can select an area of interest through a place-name search, address match, latitude/longitude coordinates, or zoom window. Once defined, additional map layers, such as boundaries, roads, rivers, earthquake fault lines, population density, satellite imagery or shaded relief, can be added.

    AP has also announced the launch of a new XML-based service, XML AP Online, and a new Internet-based delivery system, News Server Internet Delivery, allowing the integration of Associated Press content into web sites and the distribution of news on the Internet.

  • BELL & HOWELL CO.
    The Skokie, Ill.-based provider of information solutions and services announced that it has selected the Qpass digital Commerce Service for its electronic archiving service, ProQuest Archiver.

    The publishing archive service creates a digital archive of a publisher's content, provides a powerful search engine, supplies technical support and hosts and maintains the data center. The nation's second largest daily, USA TODAY, is the first publisher to implement the Qpass/ProQuest Archiver service to sell premium content on-line.

    The North Chelmsford, Mass.-based provider of value-added software and services to the newspaper publishing industry has announced its marketing agreement with Unisys Corp. to provide a highly integrated advertising on-line order entry, payment processing and search solution.

    Unisys will combine EdgBiz, Edgil's program for the entry, modification and payment of classified advertisements using a standard Web browser, with its e-@ction Publishing Solutions, which contain ad booking, contract management, workflow management, ad planning and page-layout functions, providing an integrated advertising environment.

    The Norwegian developer of delivery and storage systems for digital image workflow across the Internet has developed a cross-platform solution -- FastSend -- which enables the transmission of documents at higher speeds by reducing file size to speed transmission -- FastStore -- a storage system for digital media, providing off-site archiving and access of digital images, which is in beta testing at three major advertising agencies.

    FileFlow, which has U.S. offices in Milford, Mass., has announced its second round of venture capital funding, which will further expand its presence in the United States and expand sales and marketing efforts worldwide for the company's FastSend and FastStore products.

    The San Jose-based creator of the Real Cities network of 36 city and regional web sites has announced that Real Cities' Local News Channels will be featured on certain wirelessly enabled Palm handheld computers from Palm Inc.

    In the new arrangement -- which includes ESPN.com, MapQuest.com, Switchboard.com and Yahoo! -- Real Cities will create news channels optimized for the handheld user for leading U.S. newspapers nationwide such as the ARIZONA REPUBLIC, Denver's ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, the INDIANAPOLIS STAR and the BERGEN COUNTY RECORD.

    Knight Ridder also said it developed an on-line resource devoted to coverage of the Republican National Convention that was held in Philadelphia, which included live chats with party officials and candidates, live streaming video from inside the First Union Center and continuously updated news generated by more than 100 Knight Ridder journalists from across the nation.

    In a strategic alliance with the Pleasanton, Calif.-based provider of enterprise hiring solutions, the NEW YORK TIMES (1.1m) has announced the signing of agreements with three recruitment advertising-agencies -- Bayard Advertising, Posner Advertising and Miller Advertising Agency Inc.

    As part of the agreement, the NEW YORK TIMES is building and managing a distribution channel for SkillSet services and products and making them available to its advertising agency partners and their customers. In addition, both companies are dedicating staff to the alliance in the areas of solutions development, marketing and sales support.
