The long-standing tie between the supplier of publishing systems and the CHICAGO TRIBUNE (721k), dating back to 1993, has been strengthened with the implementation of a CCI AdDesk Production System on the newspaper's 60 Macintosh workstations. The system, which contains ad production, collection of material and build-up of ads, saves time says CCI. The new system will be ready for production in April 2001, and will be implemented both at the newspaper's production site in Chicago, at the headquarters at Tribune Tower and at four regional offices in the area. CCI Europe's new archive solution, CCI MediStore, will be used by the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS NEWS (220k), becoming the first of CCI's customers to implement the content management features. A result of a cooperation between IBM and CCI to develop a future-oriented archive solution based on IBM's NICA, the CCI MediStore Solution is a complete newspaper and multimedia archive solution where any digital media content, in a variety of formats, can be stored and retrieved using search functions. The DES MOINES REGISTER (160K) has also signed a contract with DTI for a 90-seat classified advertising system. A Gannett newspaper, the REGISTER also uses DTI's AdSpeed, AdManage, AdCompress, ImageSpeed, SpeedPlanner, SpeedWriter, SpeedDriver, SpeedFTP and WireSpeed software. The application server provider-based technology can be deployed to any web site or network of sites and Relevator allows bizjournals.com to provide nearly 1500 business related articles, news items and columns to users anywhere within their site network. The new-media application service provider (ASP) is collaborating with GDT-Nova of Auburn, Calif., providers of e-commerce integration software for newspapers worldwide, to develop a managed service based on GDT-Nova's Connex XML Transaction Server and related products, which enable publishers to link existing business and production systems with their web site and browser-based applications, allowing customers to interact directly on-line with the newspaper in real time. When fully implemented, the service will provide the full capabilities of Connex and selected vertical applications under an ASP model. Both the Connex server and Web gateways will be hosted within InfiNet's application hosting facilities and backed by InfiNet's 24/7 customer care. InfiNet will also expand its on-line solutions to include ContentWare from Westford, Mass.-based Openpages Inc., an advanced end-to-end Web content management system, which streamlines editorial workflow and speeds the development of digital content. In addition, InfiNet has partnered with SRA International Inc., a Fairfax, Va., systems integrator and a Tivoli Premier Partner, to assist in strategic architecture planning and Tivoli Management Software implementation and customization. Upon viewing the headline and lead paragraphs of the news articles, the public can then make its purchasing decisions. The charge for the full articles ranges from $1 to $2.95, and payment options such as credit-card billing and flat-rate accounts for $77 a month are available. The worldwide developer and marketer of Internet communication software has announced WebCatalog 4.0, the latest version of its e-commerce and Web publishing platform. Users can create multiple e-commerce storefronts equipped with back-office order management/payment authorization support, without purchasing additional licenses, making it one of the most cost-effective solutions on the market. A number of other new productivity features are included, such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Support, Free Extensions for Macromedia, Dreamweaver HTML Editor and StoreBuilder Wizard, a collection of tools that make storefront site design easy from any web browser.
