  • CCI EUROPE
    The Danish system supplier has said that it now offers a standardized editorial solution for newspapers with 50 seats or more -- ready for production in 18 weeks.

    The company said it has developed a new concept within the CCI NewsDesk product line, CCI NewsDesk BaseLine, which is set up with predefined workflow and pre-configured system integration. The product does offer a number of options for both customization and integration.

    The predefined workflow setup covers editorial text, photo, graphics, page and ad workflow and the pre-configured system integration includes wire text, photo import, graphics, sports tables, display/classified ad production and archive, etc.

    The company said that while a CCI NewsDesk Editorial Solution is customized in detail and usually requires a project specification and implementation period of one year, CCI NewsDesk BaseLine is a standardized system which is implemented in only 18 weeks.

    CCI NewsDesk BaseLine also includes a training and support package which consists of production-oriented training, product setup workshops and on-site start up support.

    The Arlington, Va.-based software publisher has announced that ExtremeZ-IP 1.1.2 is now available.

    ExtremeZ-IP is a high performance product enabling Macintosh workstations to access files on a Windows NT server up to five times faster than with NT's built-in Services for Macintosh (SFM).

    Capable of running on both Intel and Alpha platforms, ExtremeZ-IP version 1.1.2 includes feature enhancements to the software that streamline workflow and speed file transfer across a network.

  • HARRIS PUBLISHING SYSTEMS CORP.
    The Melbourne, Fla.-based company said that the DAILY OKLAHOMAN, a 205,000 circulation newspaper in Oklahoma City, Okla., has selected a MAXWorkFlow system to automate its workflow and output processes and increase productivity.

    MAXWorkFlow is a digital workflow solution that allows publishers and printers to perform rapid proofing, high-resolution output, raster down sampling, preflighting, and the optimization of large files for easy storage and handling. It features a Harlequin PostScript Level III Raster Image Processor (RIP) with a built-in Open Pre-press Interface (OPI) and allows users to custom-configure the workflow process with drag-and-drop icons.

    The national on-line home construction guide announced it has added its guide to the Web sites of eight newspaper affiliates.

    The site can now be accessed locally on 64 of its more than 130 newspaper affiliate Web sites.

  • PUBLISHING BUSINESS SYSTEMS
    The Barrington, Ill. provider of newspaper business software systems, said the Westminster Media Group in Pittsburgh, Pa., licensed PBS MediaPlus Circulation Management software. Westminster's holdings include seven daily and three weekly newspapers, with a total Sunday circulation in excess of 230,000.

    Westminster Media Group owns the TRIBUNE-REVIEW, VALLEY NEWS DISPATCH, LEADER TIMES, the DAILY COURIER, the VALLEY INDEPENDENT, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW, NORTH HILLS NEWS RECORD, THE HERALD, THE DISPATCH, STANDARD OBSERVER and PittsburghLive.com.

    The company said it has been contracted by the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR to license its Java-based Circulation Management, List Matching, and InSight products to assist with the newspaper's delivery repositioning.

    Also, Publishing Business Systems said it had "a banner year" for new business in 1999. The company said it implemented a record 98 new daily newspaper sites in calendar year 1999.

  • T/ONE INC.
    The Quincy, Ma.-based supplier of imaging and archiving systems said that the POST-TRIBUNE, of Gary, Ind., has chosen Merlin Enterprise System to archive its growing number of digital photographs. The Post-Tribune uses the new and powerful Merlin 4 client software to access images on the Merlin System server at its sibling newspaper, the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, via a wide-area network.

    The Merlin Enterprise Server and Merlin 4 client software upgrade and additional RAID capacity were installed at the SUN-TIMES earlier this year in anticipation of a new T1 circuit connecting the newspapers of Hollinger International Inc.'s Chicago Group.

    The POST-TRIBUNE, a 63,000 circulation daily, imports its digital images to the Merlin server at the SUN-TIMES via FTP. The POST-TRIBUNE's library and photo staffs use the Merlin 4 client software to add or edit any of Merlin's industry-standard IPTC-based metadata, and to search for and retrieve images for publication. The newspapers' individual collections, which will be shared, can be easily separated by credit.

    The CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, with a daily circulation of 486,000, has used Merlin as its archiving solution since 1995.

  • TRIBUNE MEDIA SERVICES
    The content syndication service said it, Universal Press Syndicate (UPS), Editors Press Service (EPS) and its London subsidiary, Solo Syndication, are creating Atlantic Syndication Partners, an international content syndication company.

    The Sarasota, Fla.-based company will use a direct sales force and a select group of international agents to market syndicated features, news, information and graphics products and services to print and new media customers around the world from offices in the United States, United Kingdom and Asia.

    Atlantic Syndication Partners will be responsible for all international sales and marketing for Tribune Media Service (TMS), UPS, EPS and London-based Solo Syndication to create the largest single international syndication company in the world. Both TMS and UPS have used EPS as an international agent for more than 25 years.

    The Zaandam, The Netherlands, supplier announced it has acquired exclusive rights to Smart Styles and Smart Layout from Mediasystemen, Bloemendaal, The Netherlands, which finalizes its spin-off of Mediasystemen.

    WoodWing Software is privately owned by its founders and an investor.

    The company also said that its Smart Styles and Smart Layout -- productivity plug-ins for Adobe InDesign v1.5 -- had passed through beta testing and are now released.
