The supplier of technology and services for the placement of print and on-line classifieds, has announced it has signed an agreement with the CHARLOTTE (N.C.) OBSERVER (300k) to provide on-line placement of classified ads at Advertise123.com. As part of the agreement, advertisers will be able to place classified ads in the print and on-line versions of the OBSERVER via www.Advertise123.com. Further, the company said it has signed a distribution agreement with honesty.com, a provider of services for on-line auction bidders and sellers. The agreement provides on-line auction sellers with a complementary sales channel for their goods. honesty.com has integrated the Advertise123.com service into its site so that now on-line auction sellers can easily place classified ads in the print and on-line versions of newspapers across the country. Also, the company said its financial results for the year ended December 31, 1999 were revenues of $1.68 million compared to $1.56 million in the previous year. Approximately 16 percent, or $267,000, of 1999 revenues were Internet generated and represent the company's initial e-commerce related revenues. The company reported a net loss of $2.87 million, or $(1.90) per share versus a net loss of $69,000, or $(0.05) at year-end 1998. Lastly, the company said that revenues for the first quarter 2000 increased to $571,000, more than 40 percent over the first quarter 1999 revenues of $407,000. A significant portion of these revenues were directly attributable to more than 6500 classified ad transactions generated by advertisers through AdStar.com's Internet portal, Advertise123.com, and privately-labeled Advertise123.com powered sites. This compares to the approximately 3400 classified ad transactions that were placed through the Advertise123.com system in all of 1999. The company reported a loss of $973,000, or $(0.34) per share, which was in line with expectations as the company brought on additional staff and built the infrastructure to develop the first-ever on-line sales channel for the multibillion-dollar classified advertising industry. Inc. of San Francisco. GDT also announced a strategic investment in Nova Publishing Products Inc. of Auburn, Calif., a system integrator and software supplier for the newspaper industry. GDT will increase its R&D capabilities at offices in Pleasanton and Rocklin, Calif., while Nova will expand its marketing, sales and customer support activities for both companies under the name GDT-Nova. Both corporations will remain separate entities, but will share resources while focusing on their respective capabilities. The companies also said that they had sold Competent Consulting's FaxAction inbound Fax/OCR/Web/Email system to five daily newspapers. Sites include FLORIDA TODAY in Melbourne, Fla. Lastly, Quark said it and I.M.A.G.E. Inc. of New York had made their first domestic sale of Quark Digital Media System (QuarkDMS) to Edward Don & Co., a business-to-business distributor of food service equipment, furnishings and supplies which publishes thousands of catalog pages a year. AFTENPOSTEN will be the first publisher in Europe to install SII's new Insiight Digital Asset Management System (IDAM) software to integrate and automate its current disparate advertising booking, tracking and management systems into a single, enterprise-wide, digital workflow. AFTENPOSTEN will also use IDAM to integrate the various forms of digital interaction which currently exist between the newspaper and its customers, and to launch a range of Internet-based advertising services for key customers designed to increase ad booking, scheduling and tracking efficiency. In addition, the newspaper's existing 200-seat SII Advertising System will be upgraded to the SII CZAR-II System to bring additional automation and flexibility.
