  • ADVANCED TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INC.
    The Wilmington, Mass.-based software developer and systems integrator of advertising and editorial publishing systems said it has made these recent installations:

    -- Suburban Newspapers of Greater St. Louis in St. Louis, Mo., with more than 42 SUBURBAN JOURNAL editions and a combined circulation of 1 million, is in production with an 80-seat ATS AdVisor advertising system. The system interfaces with a Northwood Publishing Systems Inc., ClassPage pagination system and Integrated Newspaper Systems Inc. (INSI) business system. The system is headquartered at an office in Deer Tracks, Mo., and provides remote access to its ad order processing and billing through a WAN network connected to the shared database.

    -- The TIMES REPORTER in New Philadelphia, Ohio, with a daily circulation of 23,907, and 25,909 on Sunday, is in production with a six-seat ATS AdVisor advertising system. The system interfaces with a Northwood ClassPage pagination system and an INSI business system.

    -- The STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER of Springfield, Ill., with a daily circulation of 62,000 and 73,000 on Sunday is in production with a 25-seat ATS AdVisor advertising system. The system interfaces a ClassPage system, Managing Editor's Ad Layout System, a Collier-Jackson/Geac business system and an ICVERIFY Internet credit card verification system.

  • AUTOLOGIC INFORMATION INTERNATIONAL INC.
    The digital imaging company says that the newspaper ZERO HORA of Porto Alegre, Brazil, has installed two APS 3850 CTP Imagers and in two weeks brought them up to to full production.

    ZERO HORA is running as many as 200 plates per day, per device, the Thousand Oaks, CALIF. company said. The entire 90-page daily tabloid is printed via the two computer-to-plate imagers. Two Glunz & Jensen on-line processors are used to develop Western Litho LY5 plates.

    The Brazilian paper has a weekday circulation of 150,000 and publishes an average of 90 pages a day, 50-70 of which are in color. A second site, located in the city of Cruz Alta, has ordered a third APS 3850 CTP which is expected to be installed soon.

  • COMMTOUCH SOFTWARE
    The integrated e-mail outsourcing services company has said that it has signed 101 new customers, including 35 international sites within the three months ending Dec. 31st, representing a 46 percent increase over the previous quarter.

    The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said it had signed Microsoft, USA TODAY, Epinions.com, eHobbies.com, com and SciFi.com. New international business includes ASAHI SHIMBUN, Toshiba and Scandinavia Online.

    The Portland, Ore.-based company has said that a strategic business relationship has been established with Mac Publishing.

    The two companies will cross-link the front pages of their respective sites and cross-license selected content targeted at the professional audience. In addition, Mac Publishing will also make an equity investment in Creativepro.com. Specific terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

    The Waltham, Mass.-based company has announced that it has signed an OEM agreement with Pixelis Ltd., the makers of digiSEPS for CopyDot scanning and proofROOM for color proofing. Pixelis will incorporate the Harlequin ScriptWorks RIP into its new proofCREATOR color proofing solution for the Macintosh which drives Epson, Canon and Hewlett-Packard printers. proofCREATOR uses the ScriptWorks PostScript LanguageLevel 3 compatible interpreter to read both PostScript and PDF files and uses Pixelis' color management and color look-up tables that work with Apple's ColorSync.

  • SCITEX CORPORATION LTD.
    The digital imaging company has said that it is completing development of the Leaf C-MOST, active pixel CMOS sensor, a 6.6-mega pixel CMOS sensor in an ultra-thin package. This is the first full-size, 35mm CMOS sensor to be commercially developed.

    With its ultra-thin packaging, the Leaf C-MOST sensor can be positioned in the focal plane of a standard 35mm camera, allowing full-size, high-resolution images to be captured using standard 35mm lenses. The Bedford Mass.-based company said that the Leaf C-MOST sensor provides "exceptional image quality" when compared to other CMOS sensors because of the unique active pixel design. And its high sensitivity and low noise levels are comparable to CCD technology currently available.

    Scitex collaborated with three innovators on the research and development activities: FillFactory of Leuven, Belgium for the design of the CMOS sensor; Tower Semiconductor Ltd., of Migdal Haemek, Israel for the wafer fabrication process and ShellCase Ltd., of Jerusalem, Israel, for the development and production of the custom packaging.

    The company, which has offices in Beverly, Mass. and Surrey, United Kingdom, says that Charter 2000 helps the reader relations' team follow up and respond to the hundreds of reader questions which are received daily.

    The software allows the workload to be divided up equally among the members of the customer relations team and prompts them to investigate each question and send an appropriate response to the reader.
