    The Marina Del Rey, Calif. supplier of services to place of print and on-line classifieds says three newspapers have joined its Advertise123.com -- the NEW YORK POST, the ROCHESTER (N.Y.) DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE and the DAILY BREEZE of Torrance, Calif.

    Using a Web browser, any advertiser can go to Advertise123.com to create, schedule and pay for a classified ad in one or more print and on-line publications.

  • MEDIASTREAM INC.
    The Philadelphia, Pa.-based provider of newspaper archiving and document delivery service says it is representing six new newspapers with its NewsLibrary service: PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, the DENVER POST, the PALM BEACH POST in Florida, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.'s TIMES LEADER, the WATERTOWN (N.Y.) DAILY TIMES and THE BLADE of Toledo, Ohio.

    The company says that NewsLibrary lets the public search for articles using any word that appears in the article and that the full text of most articles can be purchased for $1.95. NewsLibrary archive partners and MediaStream share all revenue from access to the on-line archives. NewsLibrary now has more than 75 newspapers' archives available with some going back more than 20 years.

  • MONOTYPE SYSTEMS INC.
    The supplier of local and remote page processing systems says that it has made the initial release of the Panther GET Driver 10.1, which allows the Graphic Enterprises' GUSS system to interface directly to a Panther Image Recorder.

    The Rolling Meadows, Ill.-based company said that Panther GET Driver 10.1 is a Windows NT-only product and that the kit includes a CD with Windows NT DLLs for GUSS to interface to the recorder, a remote keypad application to control the recorder from the GUSS workstation, a security key and a backup security key.

  • SEECOLOR CORP.
    The provider of newspaper proofing and color printing technologies has said that it has installed three SeeColor Computer To Proof systems at the LOS ANGELES TIMES.

    The Mountain View, Calif.-based company said that its Computer To Proof software creates proofs from "Post-RIPped" files and reproduces the underlying halftone screens generated by an imagesetter or platesetter RIP. The company's software also includes color tools for accurate proofing on newsprint. Broadsheet size proofs are printed on HP DesignJet 1050C printers from Hewlett-Packard Co. in less than three minutes.

    SeeColor said that the software runs under Windows NT Server on a standard dual Pentium PC and that it networks to Harlequin RIPs, ECRM, Adobe, Monotype, AGFA, Scitex and others. Standard CCITT Group 4 compressed TIFF files generated by these imager RIPs are used for proofing.

    HP DesignJet 1050C, 2000CP and 2500CP printers are used for large-format printing. The HP DesignJet printer family features easy maintenance and a large capacity CMYK ink system for longer periods of unattended printing. HP ink costs average about 25 cents per square foot of printed image, not including paper. SeeColor's Newsprint Roll Adapter is installed on 36-inch HP DesignJet printers to hold rolls of newsprint. The Newsprint Roll Adapter feeds paper into the printer and prevents skewing.

  • SCREAMINGMEDIA
    New York-based ScreamingMedia, a service that channels tailored information from content providers to clients' web sites, says the addition of several content providers, including USAToday.com, the Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service, Scripps Howard News Service, CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR and NEW YORK POST.

    ScreamingMedia gathers content from its providers, then delivers it as selected by its client sites, which include corporations and web portals.

  • THE SOFTWARE CONSTRUCTION CO.
    The ATLANTA, Ga.-based company says that it has installed its MediaServer production and archive workflow database system at the SEATTLE TIMES (circ. 230K), Knight-Ridder Information Services, Patuxent Publishing Co. (12 weeklies and 30 specialty publications), the NEW ZEALAND HERALD (circ. 250K), the GRAND RAPIDS PRESS (circ. 140K), the FLINT JOURNAL (circ. 94K) and Random House Books (in the UK). The system at each site will act as a repository for text, graphic, image, and PDF objects.

    In addition to these new installations, California's FRESNO BEE and SACRAMENTO BEE have upgraded their existing MediaServer systems. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazine has increased its existing MediaServer user license count and has purchased additional web access features to offer views of incoming and archived wire text to a larger user base.

    A provider of interactive video search products says that the NEW YORK TIMES on the Web is using the Virage video search engine technology and services.

    The Times on the Web is part of San Mateo, Calif.-based Virage's growing broadband video syndication network that provides worldwide users with on-demand access to video coverage of the American presidential campaign.

    Using a familiar search-engine style interface, the Virage video search application returns relevant video clips for viewers to watch from a comprehensive archive of unedited C-SPAN footage that is growing over the course of the 2000 campaign.

  • X-RITE INC.
    The supplier of color measurement software and devices says it is now shipping its Colortron IIc, an all-in-one solution for measurement, communication and control of color.

    The Grandville, Mich., supplier says the Colortron IIc features a measurement foot allowing targeting of source colors, increased measurement reliability and repeatability, improved power supply architecture with the elimination of on-board batteries and up to 30 percent faster measurement speed.

    Also included with the Colortron IIc is new ColorShop 2.6 software, which now includes 12 tools, and the X-Rite Color Guide & Glossary. The Colortron IIc package is available through X-Rite dealers and select catalogs at a suggested price of $995.
